FRANKINCENSE EFFECTIVE IN KILLING OVARIAN CANCER CELLS, STUDY SAYS
Did you know that frankincense possesses many medicinal properties? The latest research shows that it can help in the treatment of ovarian cancer.
This herb has been used as anti-inflammatory agent in the treatment of asthma, various skin diseases and gastroenteritis for centuries. Two years ago a research has been published in which it has been shown that frankincense may help treat arthritis.
Besides that, recent studies have shown that frankincense is useful in treating some forms of cancer, including breast, colon and prostate, all thanks to compounds that contain – acetyl-11-keto-beta-boswellic acid (AKBA).
After one year of analyzing these materials, scientists, from the University “Lester” in Britain, have tested a range of cells of ovarian cancer in the late stage, some of which were resistant to chemotherapy.
AKBA effectively destroys cancer cells in the ovaries, and scientists in particular were astonished by what they found – cancer cells that were previously resistant to chemotherapy after administration of frankincense became sensitive to this kind of therapy.
Because of this, the scientists believe that frankincense could be very useful to prevent resistance to the drugs, and would be able to contribute to improve the percentage of survival of patients with ovarian cancer in the late stage.
Great thing is that frankincense does not cause any side effects, the authors of this study believe it has enough potential to lead to a level of clinical research in the future to develop additional therapy for the treatment of ovarian cancer.
