When it comes to keeping your teeth white, it may be hard to understand how to whiten your teeth naturally with banana peels.

The understanding currently is that the minerals present in banana peels are absorbed by the teeth, and this works to whiten them naturally. Those minerals include potassium, magnesium and manganese.

Start with a Ripe but Not Overly-Ripe Banana

Choose a banana that is not black but is ripe and peels easily. Take a single strip off of the banana peel, leaving the rest of the peel on the banana. This banana can then be used for the peel for a few days before it turns completely black.

Try to Peel Like a Monkey

Monkeys peel a banana from the bottom to the top. This leaves more stringy flesh attached, so attempt to follow their example. The flesh is what will be rubbed against your teeth.

Apply Inner Layer of Peel to Teeth

Make sure to completely coat both upper and lower teeth with paste from the inside of the banana peel. Allow the paste to stay on your teeth for roughly 10 minutes. During this time, keep your lips away from your teeth. If the paste is rubbed off prematurely, the effect is lost for those areas of your teeth.

Brush Teeth

Once the 10 minutes have passed, brush your teeth with your regular toothbrush. Leave it dry and brush the paste into your teeth using gentle, circular motions. Next, wet the toothbrush and rinse paste from your teeth, then brush with your regular toothpaste.

This process should be repeated once per day and continued for a period of at least two weeks. A difference may be hard to notice at first, but taking a before and after picture can be a good way to show how different your teeth look.

Banana peels can be used as fertilizer for any house plants you may have. Simply add them to compost or grind them and add them to the soil immediately. Meanwhile, you can add the banana to your morning smoothie for a great boost of potassium and a help to increase energy and avoid snacking.

If you try this process and it does not seem effective, alternative methods like strawberries and baking soda or lemon mixed with baking soda to see if you get better results. Eating apples is also supposed to help whiten teeth. The crunchy texture removes surface stains and keeps bacteria off of teeth.

Remember that certain methods to whiten teeth, even natural ones, can be dangerous to the enamel. Do not leave lemon juice on the teeth for extended periods of time, as it can wear away the enamel and cause tooth sensitivity and other serious issues that won’t help your teeth be whiter but will cause significant pain and stress for you. Those who try these methods typically find one that improves the appearance of their teeth. Staying aware and not causing yourself more problems is important in using natural remedies to beautify your teeth.
