How To Treat Yeast Infection Naturally
Vaginal yeast infections are very common among women and cause itching or soreness in the vagina and sometimes pain or burning when urinating or having intercourse. Some women also have a thick white discharge.
Yeast normally lives in the vagina in small numbers. When too many yeast cells are growing in the vagina it causes vaginal yeast infection, which most of them are caused by a type of yeast called Candida albicans. Taking antibiotics sometimes causes an imbalance of the organisms in the vagina which results in yeast infection.
So what can you do when you have vaginal yeast infection? there are few natural remedies for yeast infection that help solving the problem. Try them as soon as you feel the uncomfortable feeling in the vagina.
Probiotics boost the immune system and increase the resistance for infection. They maintain the good bacteria in the gut which is the foundation of a good health. Yogurt that contains active cultures is a good source of beneficial bacteria. Probiotics are also available in supplement form in capsule or as powder. Yeast love sugar, so if you want to get rid of yeast eliminate sugar from your diet, or at least have a low sugar diet. Other foods that are not recommended are: processed carbs, alcohol, caffeine, vinegar, beer, fruits, aged cheeses, peanuts, melons and soy products.
Coconut Oil and Caprylic Acid
Unrefined coconut oil is one of the leading anti-fungal foods and contains fatty acids that help the body to eliminate yeast. The recommended dosage is 2 to 4 tablespoons of coconut oil daily. Caprylic acid is one of the fatty acids found in coconut oil and is available as a supplement. Recommended dosage is according to the label (consume with meals).
Oil of Oregano
This oil is effective in destroying the candida. It has anti-fungal, antibacterial and antiviral properties. You can make oregano tea by mixing 2 teaspoon of dried oregano in hot water for 10 minutes and drink it 3 times a day. You can also take it as a supplement, 250 to 500 mg three times a day. Oil of Oregano is not recommended for pregnant women.
Garlic has antibiotic and anti-fungal properties which help fight candida. It is advised to consume 600 to 900 mg daily in divided doses.
Tea Tree Oil
Dilute tea tree essential oil and soak a tampon in it. Keep it in the vagina overnight. This essential oil has antiseptic properties and is excellent to treat infections. Boric acid suppositories are highly effective in women with chronic yeast infections. The suppositories need to be inserted vaginally twice a day for two weeks, then continued for an additional two weeks if necessary.
