Researches conducted on turmeric and its uses found that the ingredient curcumin present in it is effective against major depressive disorder in the same way as fluoxetine (Prozac). But it doesn’t cause any side effects that come with the medication.
The discovery of the presence of curcumin in turmeric has come as a great relief for people suffering from depression. Dr. Ajay Goel at the Baylor University Medical Center states that patients suffering from depression will suffer from inflammation in certain parts of brain. These patients will also suffer from reduced presence of neurogenesis. This reduces the generation of new brain cells. The ingredient curcumin in turmeric not only helps reducing the inflammation, it also stimulates neurogenesis.
According to latest research studies, turmeric is also beneficial for reducing inflammation anywhere in the body.
