The Amazing Health Benefits of Coconut Butter
Many of us have heard about the benefits of coconut oil, but coconut butter isn’t far behind in the health race. The healing properties inherent in the coconut are many and varied. This multi-purpose tropical fruit can help with everything from weight loss to moisturizing dry skin from the inside out. Coconut is great for fighting off foreign bacteria and keeping the immune system in top shape.
What Is Coconut Butter?
Coconut butter is the ground up dried flesh of the coconut. I’m sure you’re familiar with dried coconut flakes. The butter is simply taking these flakes and pulverizing them into a fine silky smooth butter. Coconut butter contains both natural oils from the coconut oil as well as fiber from the flesh. Bringing you the best of both worlds when it comes to total nourishment.
Nutritional Benefits of Coconut Butter
The nutritional benefits of coconut butter are similar to those of coconut oil. The main difference being coconut butter also contains valuable fiber. Though coconut butter doesn’t have quite as many uses as the pure oil, it’s still a very valuable addition to any diet. It is:
- Healthy fat for long term energy
- High in fiber
- Good for keeping the hormones healthy and balanced
- Replaces regular butter in many recipes
- Completely vegan friendly
How to Make Coconut Butter
Coconut butter is often sold for exorbitant prices in health food stores, but it’s dead easy to make! All you need is unsweetened dried coconut flakes of any size and a good blender or food processor.
5 C desiccated raw coconut flakes, no sugar added (it breaks down into roughly 1 C coconut butter)
Pinch of sea salt
In a high powered blender or food processor add coconut flakes and blend on medium until they start to get creamy, turn to high setting until you have a smooth butter. For an extra smooth coconut butter, process through a fine mesh sieve. Coconut butter doesn’t have to be refrigerated and lasts a very long time.
